It was never too big though, was it? Each BBS was "local", so I would imagine you would get to know whos who on your local BBS's.
I was part of a local othernet back then, and we had boards that were
laid out with the hub "in the middle", roughly. I could call the hub,
the other sysop could call the hub and it was a free call. Calling from
one BBS "area" to the other was a toll call - so we ended up with
exclusive user groups.
We had gettogethers a couple of times a year, it was nice to see
have different user groups on the local boards, share with them on the networked boards and still be able to meet up.
